Have you ever been neglected? Perhaps by a parent or a sibling growing up. Maybe even a group of friends who you drifted away from as you were growing up. Neglect is something that, no matter the circumstance, it makes us feel as if we are unworthy.

I mention this because we are often neglectful of God and I want to think about how that makes Him feel. We probably check emails or text messages 20 times a day but have difficulty spending five minutes in prayer. We may read through our children’s textbooks so that we can help them with their schoolwork but cannot bring ourselves to study the Bible just in case they have a question about God. We may wake up at three days a week at 5:00am to go hunting but making it to church at 11:00am one day a week is too much. It is a tough reality to face, but the truth is that we neglect God. It is only when we want something from Him that we choose to acknowledge Him at all.

David asks God in Psalm 139, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! (Psalm 139:23-24). God does know our hearts and our thoughts, and we cannot hide our neglect from Him. I’m encouraging each of us this month to search our own hearts and decide to really commit our lives to Christ.

It is a blessing to serve with you,

Pastor Lance
